Music

We are proud to be a Music Mark School, working in unison with Severn Arts Music, Worcester.

" I would teach children music, physics and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music

and all the arts are the keys to learning"  Plato

At Crowle First School we teach a broad and balanced curriculum.  Our music curriculum offers children a wide range of musical experiences, to inspire them and teach them about music.  Music is based on the National Curriculum outcomes, and we have specialist music teachers who come in to school to support all staff with teaching music.

Using clear sequences of learning, lessons are planned to develop children's knowledge, skills and understanding in the subject.  We also plan for the vocabulary that children will learn throughout a topic, and any cross curricular links that can be made.

In Year 1/2 children learn the African Drums / Ukulele.

In Year 3/4 children learn the Cornet / Clarinet

We also have lunch time clubs were children can learn the recorder and/or the ukulele.

Our school choir also performs locally at the Three Counties Showground, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat etc.

Our musicians and singers also have regular opportunities to perform in front of the whole school at Family Services, Talent Shows, Collective Worship etc.

As a school, we invite local musicians to come in to school to play music for us, but we have also been on trips to hear age appropriate music recitals (Dinosaur Stomp at CBSO, Birmingham for example).

We also feel it is important for children to have the opportunity to perform to others, as part of their music curriculum.  This develops their confidence, which supports our school vision.  We encourage children to:

  • Sing daily as part of Collective Worship
  • Play piano at our celebration assembly each week, in front of their peers.
  • Play recorders at our Christmas Carol service, at Crowle Church.
  • Ukulele performed at Family Service at Crowle Church.
  • End of year talent show where children have demonstrated their skills in keyboard, musical theatre etc
  • Invited West End Star to do drama and music workshops with our children.
  • Crowle Choir singing at the Three Counties Showground.

Working in unison with Severn Arts, we are delighted to be awarded the Music Mark for all the hard work and commitment our children show throughout their music lessons.
